Nearly 30 impoverished patients and children with deformities and disabilities in Ha Giang underwent surgery

Doctors at Viet Duc Friendship Hospital successfully operated on 26 cases, including 10 pediatric patients.
The Vietnam Orthopaedic Association, the Ha Giang Department of Health, and Ha Giang General Hospital recently performed nearly 30 successful surgeries for impoverished patients and children with congenital malformations and disabilities in Ha Giang.
The humanitarian screening, consultation, and surgical program for impoverished patients and children suffering from orthopedic conditions, sequelae, congenital malformations, and musculoskeletal disabilities, organized by the Sala Humanitarian Club in collaboration with the Vietnam Orthopaedic Association, the Ha Giang Department of Health, and Ha Giang General Hospital, has been successfully carried out.

Following initial screening at the Provincial General Hospital for nearly 80 patients, doctors from Viet Duc Friendship Hospital and an American medical delegation performed surgeries on 26 cases, including 10 pediatric patients. The delegation also encouraged, presented gifts, and provided financial support for travel and surgery to pediatric patients and impoverished individuals in difficult circumstances.
Within the framework of the program, the delegation also directly visited, awarded scholarships, and distributed gifts, warm clothes, shoes, and learning equipment (totaling 110 million VND) to students and teachers at the Khau Bung village school site, Quyet Tien commune, Quan Ba district.

Associate Professor, Doctor Nguyen Manh Khanh, Chairman of the Sala Humanitarian Club, President of the Vietnam Orthopaedic Association, and Deputy Director of Viet Duc Friendship Hospital, stated that doctors at Viet Duc Friendship Hospital frequently coordinate to organize humanitarian medical examination and treatment programs in Ha Giang and many other mountainous provinces.
"The club was established in 2010 and regularly collaborates to organize humanitarian medical examination and treatment programs in Ha Giang." With the motto "sharing love," we aim to provide timely and practical assistance to children and impoverished ethnic minorities so they can lead better lives. If patients from remote areas have to travel all the way to higher-level hospitals for examination and treatment, it is very costly in terms of both time and money, as not only the patients but also their family members must accompany them for care. Instead of that, trips to local areas, in coordination with local medical staff, to examine and operate on patients mean they do not have to travel far and can still benefit from health insurance if applicable. Such trips also provide our doctors with the opportunity to encounter a wide variety of pathologies in the field of orthopedics, participate in charitable work, and share with our fellow citizens. Furthermore, this is an activity that supports professional development and the transfer of new techniques to local and lower-tier colleagues, shared Associate Professor, Doctor Nguyen Manh Khanh.
