Following total knee replacement surgery, the patient is free from years of persistent pain

The case I would like to share is that of a 66-year-old female patient who presented with prolonged knee pain due to severe osteoarthritis.
Initially, the pain only occurred with prolonged walking. However, over time, the degeneration progressed, significantly affecting the patient's walking, daily activities, and even sleep. Despite enduring knee pain for many years, about the past year, the pain became much more severe. The patient shared that: "At first I could still walk, but after a while, the joint completely deteriorated, and I could barely walk anymore. I had pain for a long time, but it became severe about a year ago. Before that, it still hurt, but I could bear it; during that past year, it hurt so much that I couldn't stand walking even a little bit."
Following clinical examination combined with imaging evaluation, the patient was diagnosed with grade 4 knee osteoarthritis. Total knee arthroplasty was indicated to help the patient restore mobility.
One year postoperatively, the patient returned for a follow-up visit in very good condition. Currently, she moves almost normally, and every day she maintains her exercise routine, cycling, and regular physical activity.
Her quality of life has improved markedly. She happily shared that on a recent trip, she was able to walk about 5 km per day without any significant obstacles.
Looking back at the treatment journey, she and her daughter were very emotional: "I progressed very quickly; in about a month, I felt a difference. In about 2 to 3 months, I was walking smoothly."
At the follow-up visit, both clinical and X-ray imaging results showed the artificial knee joint in a stable position, well-recovered motor function, and no concerning abnormalities.

This outcome stems from multiple factors: appropriate treatment indication, precise surgical technique, and especially the patient's excellent compliance during rehabilitation. Proper exercise and maintaining regular physical activity play a crucial role in helping patients regain mobility early and improve their quality of life after surgery.

From being in so much pain that she could barely walk, she can now confidently walk, cycle, and fully enjoy her daily life.
For the patient, it is the joy of regaining mobility. For the physician, the happiness is sometimes simply witnessing their patient stand up, walk, and return to the life they desire.
