The patient walked in less than 24 hours after hip replacement – The remarkable advancement of the SuperPath technique

The case I want to share today is a 79-year-old patient. Currently, on the 2nd postoperative day after left total hip arthroplasty using the SuperPath technique, the patient is able to stand firmly and, even better, walk well with the assistance of a U-shaped walking frame.
This is quite a special case, as the patient previously underwent right total hip arthroplasty via a traditional posterior approach. Therefore, the patient has the opportunity to directly experience and compare the two surgical methods on their own body.
According to the patient, after the previous surgery, it took nearly a month before they could start walking again. Meanwhile, with this SuperPath hip replacement, they were able to walk with the U-shaped frame after about 20 hours and stood quite confidently by the second day. The patient also shared with the team: "On the night after the surgery, I slept soundly from evening until morning."

As usual, the patient's incision was closed with aesthetic sutures combined with biological glue application, making postoperative wound care easier and enhancing aesthetic results.

Having undergone two hip surgeries, the patient is able to experience and evaluate firsthand, so I am certain they can perceive the change and progress brought by the new method.
The medical profession, like any other, relies heavily on change and continuous learning. Any conservatism can lead to collapse. Therefore, we must maintain a progressive and objective mindset, especially in the role of a physician, a medical researcher, or both.
The era of media, AI, and robotics has arrived. Doctors are placed in a vortex of rapid development. I always feel a sense of urgency and excitement for new things. When lacking the opportunity to access them, one must find every possible way to do so. Hearing a hundred times is not as good as seeing once, and seeing a hundred times is not as good as doing once. The more we observe and perform procedures, the more experience we can accumulate to treat patients, and the better we can figure out optimal approaches, tips, and techniques that no textbook can teach. This is proven by the patient's recovery and the inner satisfaction of the surgeon.
Hip replacement surgery nowadays can be performed using various surgical approaches. If you only perform a single approach and claim it is the best and greatest, that is likely a subjective and unscientific assertion. I have performed thousands of hip replacements via the posterior approach, hundreds via the ABMS and SuperPath approaches, and have studied and observed the direct anterior approach (DAA) firsthand. I find that every surgical approach has its own advantages and disadvantages, with different applications suited to specific clinical scenarios and surgeons. Ultimately, however, I find that advanced surgical approaches offer more advantages than the traditional posterior approach, particularly in terms of faster recovery and dislocation prevention. This is also the current global trend. Nowadays, if any of my total hip arthroplasty patients cannot walk after 24 hours post-op, that would surprise me, rather than the other way around.
However, this does not mean that traditional methods have lost their value. The posterior approach still plays a vital role, especially in complex cases, severe deformities, or revision surgeries. Each technique holds its own place in clinical practice.
Medicine is constantly evolving and developing. Today's advancements are created to overcome yesterday's limitations. For practitioners, continuously learning, updating, and adopting new techniques is not about chasing trends, but about delivering better treatment outcomes for patients.
And the most convincing proof of a new technique's value lies not only in research papers or scientific conferences, but in the recovery, the smile, and the steady steps of the patient after surgery.
